Kyle's Birthday Party

Last night Kyle celebrated his 17th birthday party with his close friends that are also neighbors. It has been so wonderful to have these 3 boys living in our neighborhood. They have all known each other and have been friends since they were in kindergarten and when we moved in last May they immediately took Kyle in as a new member of their neighborhood "boy squad".

This has been especially wonderful in light of the fact that Kyle is doing Independent Study this year for High School and does not get the daily social experiences you get in a regular school setting. He sees these boys at least 4 times a week and sees his friend George (who lives directly across the street) almost daily.

Kyle's celebration began with 2 of the boys coming over for pizza. Brian came late due to being at baseball practice. Below from left to right is George, Kyle and Nolan enjoying pizza.

                                                      ....and acting silly!

Below is the whole gang right before we left for the movies. From left to right is Brian, George, Kyle and Nolan.

The boys wanted to see a "scary" movie so I took them to see "Mama". Since I'm not a scary movie type, I ended up down the hall at the theatre complex and watched "Life of Pi" which was much more my speed! Apparently "Mama" is about 2 young girls that have been raised for the first few years of their life in a deserted cabin in the woods. They are not raised by a human "Mama" however! Their "Mama" is a skinny, skeletal creature that lives in the walls! The boys ended up being more amused than scared and I got to listen to their hilarious imitations of the 2 girls calling for their "Mama" all the way home. If that wasn't funny enough they then demonstrated the way the creepy cabin dwelling girls would walk on all fours through out the house all the while calling out for their creepy "Mama". Seriously these boys had me laughing so hard I cried.

Once we got home from the movies, it was time for cake and ice cream. Below is Kyle with his cake.

                                            ...and of course more silliness.....

Then Kyle made his wish and blew out the candles.
After cake, Kevin and I retreated back to our room where we inserted ear plugs and went to bed! The boys continued on with a sleep over that I'm sure went on until the wee hours! The beauty of earplugs is that we didn't hear a thing.....

Kyle had a great birthday! We can hardly believe he is 17 already and wonder where the time has gone. Kyle is excited to start working towards getting his driving permit and then his license. Personally we are in no hurry for that, but at 17 it is time. Kyle loves our new home in our new city. He has great friends, a great school program and wonderful church. It's great to see him so happy and enjoying his life.
